It's Beginning To...

L

ook A Lot Like Christmas and it's not even Thanksgiving. I can remember not long ago you didn't see Christmas decorations going up until after Tday. In Houston, Walgreen's has their Christmas decorations out for sale as do the different supermarkets, card stores, etc. I think some even had them up and selling after Labor Day. I can only imagine that the malls have already started. I can remember someone even saying "geez, it's not even Halloween" as one store began with the Christmas items.

Aren't we rushing things just a little bit too much here?

Going over for my mail the other day around 5AM while it was still dark, I noticed an apartment with Christmas lights up on their window already. I laughed and shook my head and thought "crazy". No sooner did I say that and there next to me was another apartment with the windows decorated with lights, artificial snow... the whole nine yards.

This year the 4th of July comes on... well, the 4th of July. I figure at this rate, right after New Year's it should be safe to start with the red, white and blue bunting.

Observations and Questions
When do you start getting into the Christmas mood or spirit? When do you decorate?

And... not to forget our friends on the other side of the fence... when do you celebrate Chanukah? I know WHEN it really is, but do y'all get carried away like we do for Christmas? For the benefit of those that have heard about Chanukah but haven't a clue what it is:

Every year between the end of November and the end of December, Jewish people around the world celebrate the holiday of Chanukah. Chanukah begins on the 25th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev, but the starting date on the western calendar varies from year to year. The holiday celebrates the events which took place over 2,300 years ago in the land of Judea, which is now Israel. Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, is a celebration of the victory of the Maccabees and the rededication of the Jerusalem Temple. It also commemorates the miracle of the oil that burned for 8 days.
